Go out with a bang!

It’s almost the end of the school year and all of the kids (and teachers too!) are getting antsy and excited about their upcoming summer vacation. And with the end of the year, comes end of the year parties. Schools love to end the year with a bang and the kids love the full day of fun! If you are coordinating or even just helping out with your child’s end of the year party, you’ll be needing some ideas. Here are a few that we think are just adorable!

With summer comes adventures at the beach. A beach themed party is always a winner with the kids and the adults will enjoy it too! There are so many different way that you can have a beach party. You can make it a Hawaiian beach party with leis and limbo or a tropical beach party with umbrellas in your smoothies and fruity popsicles. Whichever way you do it, it’s sure to be a hit!

See what your child and their classmates have been learning about recently at school and use that as inspiration. If they just learned a bit of science, have a chemistry party, if they just discussed American history, use the inspiration for a colonial theme, if animals was their last subject make a jungle theme the focus. Have some fun with your kid’s education!

Take them on a picnic! Picnic parties are not only fun, but pretty easy! Blankets, baskets, sandwiches and mason jars filled with daisies are only a few of the things you need to create the picnic atmospheres.

Have an artsy party! All of the kids in school participate in art classes, so use that as an inspiration for a colorful celebration. Take a tip from this awesome party we found on Kara’s Party Ideas and add a ‘splash’ of color to every detail!

And don’t forget, after the party it’s vacation time! If you happen to be taking a road trip to the beach or to visit family, stay tuned for a post about a few road trip survival tips ;)

Mother’s Day Ideas

Mother’s day is this Sunday May 8! So, surely you’re family is thinking and plotting for all the special things they want to do for you. If they’re having a hard time coming up with ideas for crafts, dinners or desserts (since they’ve undoubtedly done such wonderfully creative things in the past), here are a few to get their imaginations churning.

Wheel of Affection:

A craft where your kids can tell you how much they love you in every way! With just a few simple materials and loving words this craft is a sinch. Head over to Disney Family Fun for the directions.

Bath Soaps:

Every mom loves a spa day, so what better way to begin the spa experience than receiving homemade bath soaps? This is a craft that will definitely need adult supervision since a knife is involved. Your kids can create soaps in fun shapes and multiple colors. Fun for them to make, fun for you to use! Kaboose has all the directions you’ll need for this artistic craft.

Lasagna Rolls:

This is an easier way to make a family favorite recipe that your kids can help with too. Just as delicious as a regular layered lasagna, lasagna roll ups are fairly easy to make and fun to eat. Giada De Laurentiis provides you with this great recipe.

Ice Cream Stuffed Oranges with Caramel Sauce:

Everyone loves dessert! This dessert is something new that you can try and is so easy and quick to make. With only 3 ingredients, this delicious treat will be ready in no time at all! You can find the rest of Robin Miller’s recipe here.

Happy Mother’s Day to all!

Bert’s Big Adventure Birthday Bash!

Thanks for hanging in there! We promised more pictures and they are finally here. Lauren Nicole Studios took some fabulous photos of our very first Bert’s Big Adventure Birthday Bash. Take a look!

The party had a carnival theme with blue, white and red as the main colors, with yellow as an accent color for party hats, place cards, and cups. We are so proud of this party and had so much fun with all of the kids. They loved the freshly popped popcorn, hot dogs, lollipops and yummy cupcakes we had for the birthday boys and girls and all of their friends and family. Everyone was also able to enjoy face painting, games and one fabulous furry pup.

These birthday bashes are so much fun that we’ll be having one every month for each child that was a part Bert’s Big Adventure! Every day is special for these kids and we’re so happy that we can make their birthdays even more memorable. Thank you again to everyone that helped make this party a success. We can’t wait until the next one!

Posh Play Dates

Kids love to have play dates. It’s not only a fun time for them to spend with their friends, you get to know their friends too and have some fun in the process! It’s no surprise that with so many play dates on the calendar, you may run out of ideas. Hopefully, somewhere in this compiled list that we’ve created for you, there’s something new and exciting for you and your kids to try out!

1. The best play dates happen in the great outdoors! Pack a picnic (blanket and all), some outdoor toys (like soccer balls, bubbles and kites) and head outside if the weather permits. You’ll get some time to relax in the sun and the kids will get some fun exercise in the sunshine. This http://frugaldad.com/rei/coupon for REI will help you save on a variety of outdoor activities!

2. Head to a museum that has a kids tour. Some museums bring new and fun exhibits for kids. This is a great way for you and the kids to learn something new!

3. Have a dance party! Turn up the music and have some fun! Play a game of freeze dance with the kids where they dance as fast as they can and stop quick when the music does. After, they can make up their own dance to one of their favorite songs. Have them surprise you with the finished product when they’re all done!

4. Play a kids version of Pictionary. Let them use their imagination on a small dry erase board and draw picture for you and their friends to guess. Make sure everyone feels like a winner at the end of the game with treats fro everyone.

5. If you’re okay with moving furniture around, help the kids make a fort out of chairs, pillows and blankets. When they’re happy with their fortress give them some fun books to read and enjoy inside their cozy towers.

An April Easter Egg Hunt

The stores have started their decorating and the Easter bunny is on his way! A fun day full of candy, fun, great food, laughter and of course, colored eggs. The Posh girls have decided to throw an Easter egg hunt and we wanted to share some great decorating ideas that we found over at Martha Stewart Living. So, pick a color palette (pastels are great for Easter!) and start planning your fun Easter soiree!

These crepe paper carrots are adorable and make for a fantastic favor at an Easter party. For a small party, you can individualize them for anyone of any age and hand them out to each person or you can keep the surprise consistent and leave them by the door for people to grab. Click here for the how-to on this DIY decoration.

For an outdoor party, try these cute whimsical centerpieces. Use some eggcups that you have at home or that you found at an antique shop or garage sale, as vases for pretty spring flowers. You can mix and match the flowers for a fun garden look. Stick some floral foam at the bottom of the cup and stick the flowers in, use some fake Easter grass on top if you like. For something more simple, just go with some soil.

You can’t forget about a craft for the kids (we never do)! Once you’ve dyed all of your eggs, set some aside for the little guests at the party. Provide them with stickers and washable markers to decorate the colorful eggs however they would like. The best part is, there won’t be much of a mess for you to clean up after!

With so much running around, everyone is bound to get hungry. Along with all of your family favorites, try this new recipe that has crisp asparagus and creamy ricotta cheese with yummy and salty prosciutto. A tart for all to remember! For the recipe, click here.

Happy Hopping!

Spring is Almost Here!

And with spring time comes spring time allergies. Allergies affect people of all ages, including the little ones and they can be horrible. It’s practically impossible to avoid the pollen outside, but there are a few things that you can do around the house to help lessen the affect of allergies on your children.

In children, food, dust and animal allergies are the most common. If spring is a troubling time for your little one, here are a few tips to help ease the pain:

  • If your child is allergic to pets, keep your animals contained to certain rooms in the house. Also, be sure to keep them out of your child’s room and bathe them if needed.
  • Remove rugs and carpets from your child’s room because they collect dust faster than a hardwood floor. If the room is all carpet, have it thoroughly cleaned early in the month and be sure to vacuum often to keep the dust particles to a minimum.
  • Pack away your heavy drapes or anything else that collects dust easily. If you can’t stand the thought of bare windows, switch them out for light, airy and freshly cleaned curtains.
  • If your child has a dust mite allergy, use special covers for pillows and mattresses
  • If your child has food allergies (and you don’t fully trust the school lunches) pack a special lunch for them. This also gives them a chance to get a super special lunch box and you can even leave them special notes to help them through the day.
  • For kids with pollen allergies, keep the windows closed both in the home and in the car, especially when the pollen season is at its peak, make sure to change their clothes after they have been outdoors, and don’t let them hang around near an area where yard work is being done.
  • The best tip of all is to make sure to inform all caregivers of any and all allergies that your child may have and make sure that they are equipped with anything that they may need, such as injectable epinephrine or prescribed allergy medicine.

Wishing you a happy and sniffle free spring season!

Real Events: A Superhero Adventure

Avner’s 4th Birthday was cause for a super sized celebration. Avner had Batman as his superhero of choice and we went all out to make him feel like the big man himself. The party took place at Sensory Therafun which is a facility that offers parents and therapists a new form of therapy for kids that’s both creative and fun! The space gave the kids lots of room to climb, play and decorate!

The tables were decorated with batman colors and superhero catchphrases that grabbed the kid’s attention. We used over-sized balloons as the centerpieces with a decorative black and with runner on the table. The kids enjoyed pizza and snacks before cutting the Batman cake!

We had a separate room for the party activity where all the kids got to make and decorate their own superhero capes and masks to go along with the theme. They decorated with stickers and markers and glitter to make each one their own. All the kids had such a great time creating their masterpieces and giving themselves superhero names!
